Team: University of Nebraska–Lincoln
Lil' Red is the lesser-known mascot of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's athletic programs. Despite being created in 1993, Lil' Red has quickly become a recognizable part of Nebraska athletics culture. The mascot is often seen at Memorial Stadium cheering on the football team, as well as Pinnacle Bank Arena during basketball games. The operator of the costume wears a "PowerBelt," which allows Lil' Red to run, dance, shake hands, and crowd surf. In 1999, Lil' Red won the national championship at the NCAA National Mascot Competition. In 2007, Lil' Red was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.
Wellbee
In 1962, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) needed a new mascot to promote immunization and other public health campaigns. They turned to Hollywood artist Harold M. Walker, who created Wellbee, an anthropomorphic bumblebee. Wellbee quickly became a national symbol of public health, and was featured in countless public service announcements and other materials. He even had his own comic book series! Wellbee's cheerful demeanor and positive attitude helped to make immunization and other public health measures seem less scary, and he played a major role in improving the health of Americans.

Chief Illiniwek
Chief Illiniwek was the symbol/mascot of the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign (UIUC) for 81 years, from 1926 to 2007. He was portrayed by a student who performed during halftime of Illinois football and basketball games, as well as during women's volleyball matches.
Chief Illiniwek was a controversial figure, with some people viewing him as a symbol of tradition and others as a racist caricature. In 2005, the NCAA banned schools from using mascots that were deemed "hostile or abusive," and UIUC retired Chief Illiniwek in 2007.
UIUC has not selected a replacement mascot, but in 2020 the belted kingfisher received a majority of student votes as a possible new mascot. The University Senate overwhelmingly endorsed the kingfisher as the new mascot in September 2020.
Eddie

Águia Vitória
Águia Vitória is the mascot of Portuguese football club S.L. Benfica. Before every Benfica match at the Estádio da Luz, the eagle (águia) flies around the stadium and eventually lands on top of the club's crest without the eagle symbol, completing it. Vitória is a bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), trained by André Rodrigues since April 2011. The original eagle Vitória, whose trainer was Juan Bernabé, flew in the inauguration of the Estádio da Luz on 25 October 2003. It was apprehended days later and released in May 2006. In the meantime, it was replaced by a similar eagle with the same name. Gloriosa is another eagle that flies in the stadium, where the eagles actually live. They carry red and white ribbons, the club's colours.
Oski the Bear
Oski the Bear is the official mascot of the University of California, Berkeley, representing the California Golden Bears. He made his debut at a freshman rally in the Greek Theatre on September 25, 1941. Prior to his debut, live bears were used as Cal mascots. Oski's name, design, and character were developed by William "Rocky" Rockwell, who was the first student to play the role, and Warrington Colescott, an editor of The Daily Californian and famed satirist.

Clutch

Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat
Fatso the Fat-Arsed Wombat was an unofficial mascot of the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics. He was a wombat with a lazy, cheerful expression and a comically pronounced rump. Fatso was a spoof of the official Olympic mascots Olly, Millie, and Syd. He was more popular among Australian fans than the official mascots. He appeared with gold medalists Susie O'Neill, Grant Hackett and the Australian men's 4×200-metre relay team on the winners' dais. He even appeared on an official commemorative postage stamp. Chief Wahoo
Chief Wahoo was a controversial logo used by the Cleveland Indians baseball team from 1951 to 2018. The logo was a caricature of a Native American chief, and it was criticized by Native Americans, social scientists, and religious and educational groups for being racist and offensive. However, the logo was popular among fans of the team, and it remained in use for many years.
In the 2010s, the Indians began to phase out Chief Wahoo, and in 2013, they replaced it with a block "C" as their primary logo.
