Sparky the Sun Devil is the official mascot of Arizona State University. The Sun Devils were originally an owl, then a "Normal" (because ASU was founded as a normal school). They changed to a bulldog in an attempt to appear more like Yale and other prestigious universities. But the students wanted a Sun Devil, and they voted to make the change in 1946.
