He learns about the world and its people and he begins to make friends. Makoto also learns about the history of El-Hazard and the war that is brewing between the two kingdoms. He is caught up in the war and must decide which side he will fight for. Makoto is a brave and resourceful young man. He is determined to find a way to return home to Japan, but he also knows that he has a responsibility to help the people of El-Hazard
