Jotham or Yotam Jotham was the youngest of Gideon's seventy sons. When his half-brother Abimelech killed all of his other brothers, Jotham escaped. One day, the people of Shechem gathered to make Abimelech king. Jotham climbed to the top of Mount Gerizim and told them a parable about a bramble bush that grew up and became king of the trees. The people realized that Abimelech was just like the bramble bush, and they turned against him. Abimelech was furious, and he destroyed the city of Shechem and killed many of its people. Jotham fled to Beer to escape Abimelech's wrath.
