Ninigi-no-Mikoto Ninigi-no-Mikoto was a deity in Japanese mythology. He was the grandson of the sun goddess Amaterasu and the son of the storm god Susanoo. Ninigi-no-Mikoto was sent down to earth to rule over the land of Japan. He landed on Mount Takachiho in Kyushu, where he met the goddess Konohanasakuya-hime. They fell in love and were married. Ninigi-no-Mikoto and Konohanasakuya-hime had three children, who became the ancestors of the Japanese imperial family. Ninigi-no-Mikoto was a wise and just ruler. He brought peace and prosperity to Japan. He is remembered as one of the most important figures in Japanese mythology. One of Ninigi-no-Mikoto's most famous stories is the tale of the three treasures. These treasures were the mirror Yata no Kagami, the sword Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, and the jewel Yasakani no Magatama. Ninigi-no-Mikoto gave these treasures to his grandson, Emperor Jimmu, who became the first emperor of Japan.
