Aruna Aruna is the charioteer of Surya, the Sun God in Hinduism. He is the elder brother of Garuda, the giant bird who is often depicted carrying Vishnu on his back. Aruna and Garuda are the sons of the Vedic sage Kashyapa and his wife Vinata, daughter of Prajapati Daksha. Aruna's children were Sampati and Jatayu. Aruna is also found in Buddhism and Jainism literature and arts.
