He was born and raised there, along with the other survivors, after the world above was ravaged by a catastrophic event. Newt's ability to fix and create anything out of scraps has earned him the nickname 'The Glue', and he is considered an invaluable member of the community.

The artifact was said to possess immense power and was guarded by the rebels with their lives. Newt had been tracking the rebels for weeks, following their every move and gathering information on their whereabouts.
